Spinning at top venues and high profile events internationally, Alex Merrell is quickly becoming recognized for being one of the few younger DJs who is truly all about the music. Her in-depth musical knowledge, unrestricted by genre or era, and her exquisite mixes have gained her praise and admiration from both club-goers and industry professionals. Her style is distinct yet tailored to the room, influenced by electro, house, dance, hip hop, 60’s and indie rock, top 40, lounge and world music. She knows how to create the right vibe whether she’s at a downtown club or an uptown restaurant, a hotel bar or a private party. Alex worked with UNICEF on the Tap Project Radio campaign, was featured on their internet radio station and DJ'd their LA launch party. She has also DJ'd events for such clients as Toronto International Film Festival, 2010 Olympics, Zara, Guess, Universal Music Group, TV Guide, House of Hype (at Coachella Music Festival), Lia Sophia Jewelry, Dove Beauty and Disney, as well as opening for DJ AM in 2009 and DJ Skribble & Dave Navarro in 2010 at the Justice Ball at the Hollywood Palladium. She has DJ’d photo shoots for the likes of Miley Cyrus, Leona Lewis, Selena Gomez and the casts of Pretty Little Liars, Chuck, Dancing with the Stars and Supernaturalto name a few. Her international residencies include La Plage in St Barth and Cobra in Toronto. She has toured as Taio Cruz’s DJ, playing such events as the American Music Awards Pre Show, Jingle Ball and on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.Alex has been featured by numerous press outlets across North America and has made appearances in music videos and commercials for the likes of Mike Posner and California Tourism.
Raised in Vancouver, Paris and New York by artist parents, Alex pursued dance, theater and music from a young age. In 2007, she moved to Los Angeles to accept an internship with one of LA's top entertainment companies, 19 Entertainment. Within four months she had secured a position as the executive assistant to a music manager. For two years, she worked at their offices with artists Jordin Sparks and Daughtry, who was the top selling artist in 2007, and learned the ins and outs of the music industry. She continued her studies in acting with esteemed teacher Eric Morris and explored the LA music scene. In the summer of 2008 she bought her first DJ setup and soon after met DJ Mark Luv (The Pharcyde), who became her mentor.
Alex is currently based in Los Angeles.
